In the year 2038, a massive asteroid collides with the moon, causing lunar meteorites to repeatedly bombard a 500-kilometer-wide band around the Earth. The area becomes known as the Sacrifice Zone (The Zone) and is left uninhabitable and walled off from the rest of the world.
While guarding the Zone, paramilitary Operators uncover a mysterious material called Compound Sigma. Rumors swirl when Sigma manifests quantum effects, sparking new battles for dominance in technology, wealth and power worldwide. Nations, corporations and elite families assemble their own Mercenary Extraction Forces (MEFs) to venture into The Zone to extract Sigma. Dominant among them is VELDACHA CORP.
